Telkom planning free ADSL upgrades: sources

Telkom is planning to increase the entry-level ADSL speed from 2Mbps to 4Mbps. This is according to information received from multiple ISP executives.

While details about this planned ADSL speed increase remain sketchy, many ISP executives confirmed that they are aware of the planned ADSL speed increase in 2015.

This will be the first free ADSL speed increase since November 2013 when Telkom upgraded its 1Mbps, 2Mbps, and 4Mbps ADSL product speeds to 2Mbps, 4Mbps, and 10Mbps respectively.

When asked about this planned upgrade, Telkom said that it “continuously investigates opportunities to improve the quality and affordability of broadband access in South Africa”.

Telkom would, however, not provide any details about any planned ADSL speed upgrades.

“We will make announcements in this regard when it is appropriate to do so,” said Jacqui O’ Sullivan, Managing Executive, Telkom Group Communication.
