7 of the best job perks at South Africa’s top companies

In October, the Top Employers Institute released its updated list of certified top employers in South Africa, adding 15 new companies to the list of employers who provide the best environment for their employees.

The research recognises employers that provide excellent employee conditions, nurture and develop talent throughout all levels of the organisation, and which strive to continuously optimise employment practices.

These companies also typically stand out as having some of the coolest job perks in the industry, as they try to cultivate pleasant work environments and employees who enjoy going into work every day.

BusinessTech looked at some of these top companies across South Africa, and some of the awesome benefits they offer their employees.


Accenture – Digital PA system 

Accenture offer a free digital personal assistant system where you can get help for your personal life.

These PA’s can do everything from booking a venue for a kid’s 8th birthday party, to getting someone in to help with giving your kids a haircut.


MTN – Six months paid maternity leave 

While it offers similar perks as other telecoms companies, one of MTN’s biggest job perks is six months paid maternity leave for all mothers.

It also offers employees free legal advice and financial planning, special handset deals, and discounts on select products.


Old Mutual – Harvard studying

Old Mutual gives employees access to online Harvard tools and an online learning platform where they can book learning workshops.

This is linked to performance and talent management online processes, which prompt employees when they need to take action with respect to their learning and growth.


Levi’s – Free pair of jeans

Levi’s give their staff an awesome on-boarding kit, including a mug and a pair of jeans., alongside other more traditional job perks.


Cell C – Free devices and rugby games

Cell C has various perks, which include meal vouchers, desk drops, breakfast with the CEO, incentive trips, cash vouchers, and free devices.

The company also provides tickets to staff for the events which it sponsors, including Miss South Africa and Cell C rugby events.


Group Five – Securing your financial future

Group Five states that it strives to offer competitive remuneration to all its employees.

These include a number of job perks and packages, primarily centered around making sure that your money works for you.

These include a choice of 13 medical aid options with Discovery Health, flexible retirement benefit contributions and investment options, travel benefits (where applicable), attractive short and long term incentive schemes for qualifying employees; and competitive expatriate package structuring and over-border allowances.


SAP South Africa – Vacation plus paid holidays

SAP South Africa proudly proclaims that it has some of the best employee benefits in its industry.

Your particular benefits package will depend on your position, location, and years with the company – and all of them come with plenty of flexibility for you and your family.

However some of the standout perks include vacation plus paid holidays, comprehensive life insurance, stock purchasing plans travel insurance, and free or subsidised lunches.
