A number of South Africa’s largest retailers have announced ‘early’ Black Friday deals to cash in on what has become the biggest shopping week on the calendar.
Companies who have taken part in the growing shopping phenomenon, have reported record sales, particularly from their online sales divisions.
BusinessTech has identified several of the biggest retail brands, that have said that they will release ‘early deals’ ahead of Black Friday’s expected chaos.
Pick n Pay
The ‘Black November’ deals will go live on Pick n Pay’s online shop every Monday at 07h00 and will be valid for seven days or until stocks last, the retailer said.
It said that the deals will offer up to 50% off across various categories including groceries, appliances, electronics, wine and liquor, household items and baby essentials.
“Many customers signed up for our Black Friday emailer ahead of the time and logged onto the website minutes before new deals launched,” says John Bradshaw, retail executive for marketing at Pick n Pay.
“Customers really enjoyed the opportunity to shop for different products throughout the month and not just on one day.”
Makro said that its Black Friday sale will take place over five days in the lead up to and including Black Friday.
The sale, dubbed ‘Black 5 Day’, will see a number of categories go on deep discounts, the retailer said.
“Makro has been planning for Black Friday for the past 6 months. Our buyers work on getting deals very early in the year,” a spokesperson said.
“Customers shop across our range, from wine to fridges. Some of our most popular products are gaming consoles, washing machines, TVs, laptops & beer.”
Bidorbuy Black Friday week opens on 25 November and lasts until 1 December.
The first of these deals will launch at midnight on 25 November to get a head start on everyone else, said Bidorbuy CEO Craig Lubbe.
“Black Friday has become a global shopping event. We’re working hard to exceed the rising expectations of South Africa’s online shoppers.
“We are preparing an entire week of great Black Friday deals on a wide range of heavily discounted products,” he said.
Mr Price says its Black Friday 2019 sale will run from 25 – 29 November.
The group said that it will have a number of sales on men’s, ladies and kids fashion items. This will include deals on denim, dresses, shoes, shorts, and shirts, it said.
The group also confirmed that it will be participating in Cyber Monday, with its online store hosting sales on both days.
For the next four weeks, Zando said that ti will be ‘blacking out’ exclusive and once-off deals in the lead up to Black Friday.
The online retailer said that this will include savings of up to 70% off top brands like:
- New Balance
- Sissy Boy.
“The exclusive #ZandoBlackout Sale deals will be revealed at 12 am Black Friday morning,” it said.
“With limited stock, we highly suggest setting your alarms and getting online or on your app early so you don’t miss out.”
