99c for a pair of shoes or loaf of bread in South Africa

FNB’s eBucks rewards programme offers South Africans a pair of school shoes at PEP or a loaf of bread at Pick n Pay for 99c.

Last month, PEP announced that it had partnered with FNB to offer families with FNB cards and PEP +more rewards school shoes for 99c.

PEO explained that the initiative aims to promote the importance of school uniforms in giving children confidence and a sense of belonging.

To qualify for the 99c school shoe offer, customers have to spend over R300, pay with any FNB card, and scan their PEP + more rewards card.

Angela Beukes, head of marketing at PEP, and Pieter Woodhatch, CEO of FNB eBucks Rewards, expressed their excitement about the collaboration.

“Thanks to FNB, we’re making it possible for more families to provide quality school essentials for their children,” said Beukes.

Woodhatch said the partnership aims to make it easier for households to stretch their rands further and make the start to the year a little easier.

“School uniform supplies have a sizeable impact on our customers’ household budgets and, at times, add strain to their already stretched pockets,” he said.

“Through this 99c school shoes voucher, we aim to help supplement the cost of school shoes that will ease the overall cost of uniform spend.”

The 99c school shoe offer followed a similar promotion where South Africans can buy a loaf of bread for under R1.

In September 2024, FNB eBucks and Pick n Pay partnered to offer qualifying FNB customers a loaf of bread every week for 99c through a voucher initiative.

FNB Easy PAYU and Easy Bundle customers can purchase up to four loaves of bread a month at 99c per loaf.

To qualify, FNB Easy PAYU and Easy Bundle customers must swipe their cards for any amount when purchasing goods at Pick n Pay stores.

Pick n Pay CEO Sean Summers said they were delighted to be part of the 99c bread initiative to provide relief during difficult times.

“We see the value and role that loyalty programmes, like our Smart Shopper programme, play in helping customers stretch their budgets,” he said.

“Our Smart Shoppers could even use their points to pay for their 99c loaf of weekly bread vouchers from FNB eBucks.”
