Important announcement about Sixty60 in South Africa

 ·4 Mar 2025

Sixty60 will soon be available to more South Africans as it expands its service to selected Shoprite supermarkets.

Until recently, Sixty60 was only available at Checkers supermarkets and Hyper stores. However, this is set to change.

Following a successful pilot in Gauteng and the Western Cape, Sixty60 will launch in 19 Shoprite stores across eight provinces.

A phased roll-out will ensure that each new location delivers the excellence and efficiency that has become synonymous with Sixty60.

Shoprite Sixty60 is already available at Shoprite Atlantis, Western Cape and Shoprite Jabulani in Soweto, Gauteng.

Shoprite Kleinmond, Western Cape, and Shoprite Kriel in Ga-Nala, Mpumalanga will kick off the expansion this month.

Neil Schreuder, the company’s chief of strategy and innovation, said they will introduce Shoprite Sixty60 to locations where it can have a meaningful impact.

In a related announcement, Checkers is launching a new e-commerce website that brings the convenience of Sixty60 to even more shoppers.

The new Checkers e-commerce website allows South Africans to order products online using a browser rather than the Sixty60 mobile app.

This is partly aimed at Huawei smartphone users, who do not enjoy the same access to mobile apps as Samsung, Apple, and other Android users.

“Huawei is the third most popular mobile phone brand in South Africa. This means 2.6 million potential customers can shop on Sixty60 for the first time,” Checkers said.

The retailer has beta-tested the new transactional platform through beta.sixty60.co.za over the last few months.

This testing phase helped Checkers to optimise performance and usability before rolling it out to all customers.

New Sixty60 e-commerce site

The Sixty60 e-commerce site offers the same features and expansive product offerings as the mobile app.

It lets customers browse, select, and pay for their orders easily while benefiting from real-time order tracking and grocery delivery.

“The service includes over 10,000 larger general merchandise products available for same-day delivery within precise sixty-minute time slots,” Checkers said.

The experience is seamless across the app and web, with accounts and shopping baskets automatically synced in real-time.

This means that Sixty60 customers will enjoy a consistent user journey whether they shop on desktop, mobile, tablet, or Smart TV.

Existing Sixty60 mobile app customers can log in to the new e-commerce site by entering their mobile number.

The sign-up process for new users is quick and easy. They are also automatically signed up for the Checkers Xtra Savings rewards programme.

Checkers Xtra Savings unlocks exclusive deals and premium rewards for a personalised shopping experience with added value.

For additional security, Checkers uses a One-Time Password (OTP) system, ensuring customers can safely log in and complete their transactions with peace of mind.
