Takealot launches new service in three South African cities
Takealot has expanded its TakealotNow service directly into the Takealot App, which aims to make the delivery service faster.
A new pilot integrates its on-demand delivery service into the TakealotApp in partnership with Mr D.
The group stated that seamless integration makes life easier and faster for customers by combining speed and convenience with an already trusted shopping experience.
For eligible products on the Takealot App, a new “Get it Now” option will be available, indicating items that can be delivered immediately via TakealotNOW, fulfilled through the Mr D App.
The pilot is initially available in select regions of Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Pretoria.
Takealot said that the service underscores its mission to make life better by delivering what customers need, when they need it.
“We’re building the ultimate e-commerce ecosystem that understands what makes South Africans happy,” said Karla Levick, Chief Marketing Officer at Takealot.
“And nothing delivers happiness quite like getting what you need, when you need it most, all in minutes.”
“We’ve always focused on making shopping simpler, faster, and happier for our customers, and this interaction brings that promise to life in a meaningful way,” says Levick.
Takealot said that the on-demand delivery service builds on the success of TakealotMore, the group’s loyalty programme launched in 2024.
The group said that TakealotMORE has already enhanced shopping convenience with unlimited free delivery on Takealot, Mr D and TakealotNow.
The service now includes exclusive perks, such as free grocery delivery from Pick n Pay at in-store prices and complimentary access to News24, for less than R4 per day.
TakealotNOW expands upon this by making everyday essentials and more available in just minutes.
“We pioneered on-demand delivery for general merchandise in South Africa back in 2023 with the launch of TakealotNOW, proving that South Africans want the same access to instant convenience,” said Marnus Engelbrecht, Head of TakealotNOW.
“While this is an early stage of the rollout, we’re thrilled to deliver happiness faster and will continue to expand our capabilities over time,” Engelbrecht notes.
With the TakealotNow integration, Takealot said that the goal is simple: “streamlining customers’ lives by offering a faster, brighter, and happier shopping experience.”
Crucial period
The new product arrives amid a crucial period for Takealot, with the group aiming to report its first profit in the 2026 financial year.
After launching 15 years ago, the Takealot Group has yet to make a profit. However, Takealot CFO Tessa Ackermann said that the group declared a profit in the current six-month period.
The group recorded a R68 million EBIT loss in the first half of the 2026 financial year, which ended in September 2025.
Ackermann said that the profit in the second half of the period should push the group to a full-year profit.
However, she noted that October to December is a crucial period for the group as it is the busiest retail period of the year. The group is positive that it will become profitable.
On-demand delivery service TakealotNow has now been integrated into the Takealot App, as the e-commerce looks to provide.
