Absa director resigns with immediate effect

 ·8 Oct 2026

Alpheus Mangale has resigned from his role as an independent non-executive director at Absa, effective 8 October 2026.

In an announcement published on the Stock Exchange News Service (SENS), Absa said Mangale’s resignation was due to “personal reasons and future commitments.”

“Alpheus Mangale has resigned as an independent non-executive director to the Absa Group Board, effective 8 October 2026, due to personal reasons and future commitments,” the company said.

The executive joined the Absa Group board in 2023.

His resignation from the Absa board follows his placement on special leave from his role as CEO of Seacom, a submarine cable company, pending an investigation.

The investigation was allegedly launched due to complaints about the management of the company, Remgro executive Pieter Uys told MyBroadband.

Mangale has served as Seacom’s CEO since 2023 and held several executive positions prior to his appointment.

This includes various roles at Dimension Data Group (now NTT), where he served as the company’s chief technology officer, chief operating officer, and client experience director across Africa and the Middle East.

He also served as the chief enterprise officer for MTN Business and as managing director of Cisco Systems in South Africa.

Mangale notably served as the group chief engineering officer at Standard Bank, resigning from the position in 2022 after the company experienced severe outages.
