Tumelo Chipfupa is a partner in EY Cova, a specialist tax division of EY that focuses on carbon tax, grants, and incentives.

Before this, Chipfupa was the Deputy Director General of the Department of Trade and Industry for over 15 years.

During this time, he oversaw many development programmes, such as the South African Industrial Development Zones (IDZ) and the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) programmes.

Chipfupa then became a director at Cova Advisory and Associates in 2013 – a boutique consulting firm specialising in government grants and incentives, energy efficiency, and global trade.

He has stayed with the firm for nine years, including when it was acquired by EY.

In this EY Sustainability interview with Michael Avery, Chipfupa discusses carbon tax and the carbon economy.

He explains what is meant by the term energy efficiency, why it is important, and how it is measured.

He also unpacks why energy efficiency should be measured and highlights which entities are looking at this output.

Chipfupa then explains the benefits of Energy Performance Certification and discusses how businesses can improve their energy consumption.
