Stage 2 load shedding this week – here’s the new schedule
Stage 4 load shedding will be implemented from 16:00 today until 05:00 on Monday.
Eskom said that following this, Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented from 05:00 until 16:00, followed by Stage 4 load shedding until 05:00 on Tuesday.
The power utility said this pattern would be repeated daily until further notice.
“Eskom will publish another update should any significant changes occur,” the company said.
This update follows one earlier today where the utility suspended load shedding at 01:35 am as pumped storage dam levels were adequately replenished for the week ahead.
Eskom added that diesel levels at the OCGT power stations have improved but remain low.
Shifts between Stages 2 and 4 are likely to be welcomed by South Africans who have recently faced periods of Stage 6 as winter electricity demand skyrocketed.
Although a handful of analysts suspect otherwise, Eskom, according to the Sunday Times, is confident that the high levels of load shedding experienced last week will not stick around.
Eskom said that it anticipates the energy demand to decline soon.
“With temperatures starting to increase as per the weather forecast, we expect demand to start reducing,” said Eskom.
