Forget load shedding suspensions – Eskom ramps up outages as units go down
Update – 27 January
Eskom says that four of its units have gone down overnight, necessitating that load shedding be escalated to stage 2 until further notice.
The group had previously announced its intention to suspend load shedding during the day this weekend.
Stage 2 load shedding has been in effect since 05h00 on Saturday and will continue until conditions change.
Original – 26 January
Eskom says that sustained generation and anticipated lower demand this weekend means that outages can be suspended during the day.
Stage 1 load shedding will continue as previously announced until 05h00 on Saturday, it said, but outages will be stopped until 16h00 thereafter.
Stage 1 load shedding will kick in again overnight, with the same pattern repeating on Sunday.
The utility said it would announce any further changes should they occur, with an update for next week planned for Sunday afternoon.
