City Power’s longest-serving CEO resigns
After four years of serving as City Power’s CEO, Tshifularo Mashava has stepped down, submitting her resignation letter on Wednesday (19 February).
Mashava, who has resigned to pursue ‘personal and other professional interests,’ will officially step down as CEO at the end of March 2026.
Mashava has been City Power’s CEO for 4 years, having worked for the utility for 10 years, holding various executive roles.
City Power, owned by the City of Johannesburg, is an energy services company that distributes electricity to residents and businesses in Johannesburg.
The utility does not generate electricity; it purchases bulk power from major power generators such as Eskom.
“After careful reflection and thorough consideration, I have resolved to step down consequent to my firm intention to pursue personal and other professional interests,” Mashava said in her resignation letter.
In the letter, Mashava expressed praise and gratitude for the Board, the Executives, and the utility’s EXCO, thanking them for their support in leading the institution.
“I take particular pride and cognisance in that together, we were able to deliver on the commitments and priorities set out at the beginning of my tenure- in particular, the transitioning to an Energy entity,” she said in her letter.
Mashava attributed the utility’s progress to the dedication, skill, and professionalism of the company’s teams.
Her resignation was confirmed by City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena, who said she was leaving to pursue other professional opportunities.
