Liebenberg quits Telkom after 4 months
Former managing director at Samsung South Africa, Deon Liebenberg, has quit his post at Telkom Mobile, a spokesperson at the group has said.
Liebenberg is set to hop across to Vodacom, starting in February, a Vodacom spokesperson said, however, it is not yet clear what his new title will be.
Liebenberg served as the head of Telkom Business Mobile, and was responsible for the strategy and execution of Telkom Business’ mobile division.
Prior to joining Telkom Business, he was the MD at Samsung South Africa. Liebenberg also served as the vice president and managing director for Africa at Research In Motion (RIM), country manager at Motorola South Africa and the executive head of sales at Vodacom.
Liebenberg is a highly-respected leader in the South African telecoms market, especially for his ability to grow small companies into large market players. Liebenberg is widely-credited with building BlackBerry into the dominant smartphone platform in South Africa and making it the one of the most desirable gadgets in the country.
Telkom Group has seen a number of high profile executives leave the group in the past few weeks including CEO, Nombulelo Moholi, and chairperson Lazarus Zim.
