DoC names broadband council members

The National Broadband Advisory Council (NBAC), which will advise the Minister of Communications on the implementation of the national broadband policy and strategy, “South Africa Connect”, was launched today (4 March 2014).

In a press statement announcing the launch, the Ministry of Communications said that the council comprises of independent technical experts and representatives of business, trade unions and civil society.

The council members are:

  • Dr Sibusiso Sibisi, the CSIR President (Chair);
  • Prof. Alison Gillwald, Director of Research ICT Africa (Deputy Chair);
  • Prof. Sunil Maharaj;
  • Ms Mandla Msimang;
  • Mr Arthur Goldstuck;
  • Dr Bernie Fanaroff;
  • Mr Mlamli Booi;
  • Mr Geoffrey Qhena;
  • Prof. Jyoti Mistry; and
  • Ms Jesse Maluleke.

“We have an excellent team in the Council and their advice will assist in rolling out broadband faster and more effectively,” said Minister of Communications, Yunus Carrim.

“We need to move faster, with greater cooperation of the stakeholders, to deliver broadband,” Carrim said.
