Strange and awesome Black Friday 2017 deals you probably didn’t know about

 ·22 Nov 2017

Black Friday is all about sales, and over the years more retailers across all types of businesses have started offering their take on the day.

While much of the focus is on fast-moving consumer goods and the latest tech and gadgets, there are a whole bunch of sales which slip under the radar because they may not be quite what you have in mind for a shopping spree.

With literally hundreds of specials available, you’re likely to come across some deals outside of what you’re used to and may have slipped you by – from sex toys and wigs, to tattoos and tyres.

We’ve ventured out and found some of the more outlandish or easy-to-miss Black Friday deals that are taking place this week.

Sex toys and lingerie

You will be able to find Black Friday deals on a range of sex toys and other adult entertainment this year. Adult stores that are running sales include LuvLandDesir, AdultShop SA, and MySexShop.

Sports supplements

Supplement World will be offering Black Friday deals on some of its sports supplement products. Wellness Warehouse is also running a sale – up to 60% off – on its health products.

Wigs and weaves

If you’re looking for hair extensions or a wig at discount rates this Black Friday, the likes of Hair City and Style Diva, have you covered. Literally.

Not many people go out looking for plants during a sales rush, but Garden Shop will be running Black Friday specials for those who know their callas from their strelitzias. Lifestyle Home Garden in Randburg will also be having a sale, with its very own Black Friday section for plants and grasses.

If you’re not keen on standing in queues and would rather someone else do it for you, Q No More is offering a Black Friday discount of 50% off for all bookings made before 27 November.

Your car

For Black Friday 2017, Volvo is offering customers a full year’s worth of car payments, up to the value of R10,000 per month. Groups like Tiger Wheel and Tyre and Hi-Q are offering their own specials on tyres this week.

Tattoos and piercings

If you’ve been contemplating a new tattoo, but are hesitant because of the cost, several tattoo parlours have Black Friday specials up.

Changed Forever Tattoos in Pretoria is offering 50% off, while Dakota Lee in Sandton is offering a two-for-one special for you and a friend to get inked, running the whole weekend (strictly first come, first served). Bayview’s Redliquid Tattoo Studio in Port Elizabeth is also offering 50% off tattoos and 40% off piercings.

There are loads of deals targeted specifically for pet owners, with deals on pet care items or toys for your pooch. Pet Hero is discounting everything by 15% on Friday, while A Pet’s Life already has deals up. ePetstore, meanwhile, has discounts of between 20% and 30% for pet health items.

Geekery and novelty

You’ve probably seen one of those novelty items like a giant poker set, or a South African-themed ‘mankini’ fly by on your social media timelines – well some of those will be on special this Black Friday through novelty sites like Mantality, which is set to run deals this Friday. The site also has a load of geeky paraphernalia, as well as tech and gadgets.
