Cape Town offering bursaries for 2024

 ·22 Aug 2023

The City of Cape Town is accepting applications for external bursaries for the 2024 academic year.

The financial support will cover the cost of registration, examinations and class fees for the student’s formal studies.

It will also provide capped allowances for study aid, transport and meals. The city can also, in specific cases, provide a capped residence allowance, funding permitting.

The city has invited all interested residents in Cape Town who are at a registered accredited academic institution to apply for the external bursary.

The application period closes on Friday, 8 September 2023.

The city said that applicants will need to meet the following requirements should apply:

  • Applicants need to be a South African citizen residing within the boundaries of Cape Town

  • Applicants should possess their Grade 12 final or mid-year results with an average of 65% and above

  • Applicants need to provide a copy of first, second or third year academic transcript

  • Applicants need to be registered for full-time study at an accredited tertiary institution and should be studying an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in one of the approved city of Cape Town scarce skills fields of study

“Every year, the city provides selected aspiring students with financial assistance to further their studies. We look forward to selecting another group of ambitious students. I encourage those who meet the criteria to make use of this opportunity,” the city’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services Theresa Uys said.

“In many cases, some of the recipients of these bursaries eventually join the city of Cape Town team, and it is for this reason that we award financial assistance to students who are already interested in one of the scarce skills identified by the city.”
