Watch: Motsoeneng deserves a gold medal
Mzwakhe Mbuli, a popular poet and Mbaqanga singer, has recorded a song to thank that SABC and its COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, for a policy to play 90% local music across its 18 radio stations.
The 90% radio content policy was implemented on May 12.
The broadcaster has since announced that it plans to roll out a similar policy for its television stations.
On the sidelines of an SABC event that awarded production contracts to local players earlier this week, Motsoeneng told Fin24 that SABC 3 will start broadcasting 80% content from July 1.
“This is the voice of reason, the season of hope has come,” sings Mbuli.
“SABC has delivered the good news. We applaud the monumental decision, 90% of South African content. Bravo Hlaudi Motsoeneng on your progressive team, bravo. You all deserve gold medals. Dankie baie, baie dankie.”
