Cell C is set to sign their second mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) agreement, similar to the agreement which the company has with Virgin Mobile.

New Cell C CEO, Alan Knott-Craig said in an interview on 702, that the company is “about to appoint a second MVNO as far as I know”.

Cell C would not reveal details about the MVNO at this stage. “Unfortunately we cannot disclose any details at this stage, but an announcement will be made in due course,” Cell C said.

Rumours abound that John Holdsworth’s new business AppChat is in discussions with Cell C about a possible MVNO, but Holdsworth could not confirm or deny the rumours as he is ‘under an NDA’ with Cell C.

Knott-Craig pointed out that the MVNO model worked well in some parts of the world, but was a spectacular failure in others.

The new Cell C CEO said that they are definitely not against the MVNO model, but warned that it can be challenging to create a profitable and sustainable MVNO.
