FibreCo lays out fibre network launch window
FibreCo Telecommunications, a partnership between Cell C, Internet Solutions and Convergence Partners, announced today (2 May 2012) that it plans to start offering services on selected routes from early 2013.
The company originally planned to launch a redundant core ring between Gauteng, Cape Town, and Durban by the end of 2012, but has said that it now expects its link between Johannesburg and Cape Town to start operating in the second half of 2013.
According to FibreCo, physical construction has begun on the first 2,000km of the network between Johannesburg and Cape Town.
FibreCo held a ground breaking ceremony in the Free State today in celebration of the commencement of national construction of the remainder of the network route.
“We are officially moving full-steam ahead with the physical construction of the network between Johannesburg and Cape Town, through Bloemfontein, Durban and East London,” FibreCo said.
