The world’s richest people

Forbes has listed the richest people in the world, featuring the biggest names in tech and the billions they’re worth in 2013.
While the upper tiers of its billionaire’s list remains largely unchanged from 2012, Forbes has noted an increase of global billionaires to 1,426 individuals with a total net worth of $5.4 trillion.
That means 201 new names have been added to the exclusive list, up from the 1,226 billionaire’s in 2012.
According to Forbes, the United States still holds a majority of the world’s billionaires (422), with Asia-Pacific (386), Europe (366), the Americas (129), the Middle East & Africa (103) following suit.
Mexican telecom mogul, Carlos Helu Slim, retained his number one position as the world’s richest man – a title he’s held for the fourth year in a row – with a net worth of $73 billion.
Microsoft founder and former CEO, Bill Gates, also retained his runner-up position at $67 billion.
Amancio Ortega, the man behind the Zara clothing brand, gained $19.5 billion over the past year, which made him the biggest gainer and pushed him to position of the third richest man in the world ($57 billion) – nudging popular investor, Warren Buffet ($53.5 billion), to fourth position.
Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle and the fresh owner of Hawaii Air, lands in the list at number 5, with a net worth of $43 billion.
Online company heads also made a showing as part of the richest in the world, with Amazon.com‘s CEO, Jeff Bezos and Google‘s chief, Larry Page, breaching the bottom of the top 20 richest at 19 ($25.2 billion) and 20 ($23 billion), respectively.
