Eskom load-shedding update for Sunday

 ·7 Dec 2014

Eskom warned on Sunday (7 November) that Stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented from 8am – 10pm.

It follows Stage 3 power cuts across the country through to 10pm on Saturday.

The power utility pointed to depleted water and diesel reserves, and technical problems at its power stations as the cause for continued blackouts. Two generators also required urgent maintenance.

Stage 1 allowed for up to 1000MW of the national load to be shed, Stage 2 for up to 2000MW and Stage 3 for up to 4000MW.

The group dismissed rumours of a toal blackout on Saturday. “The social media viral message of a total blackout is not true. Load shedding will continue in stage 3 until about 10pm tonight.”

“Load-shedding is done nationally on a rotational basis. This is either for 4 hours, 3 hours or 2 hours depending on your schedule,” it said.
