KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala has confirmed that the ANC was currently considering new land expropriation regulations with a “use it or lose it” policy, reports News24.

Speaking at party’s 105th anniversary celebrations in KwaDukuza, Zikalala stated the distribution of land would be a key talking point a the ANC’s upcoming conference in February, with the party’s leaders having to take a “bold and decisive” stance on the issue.

“If you get back the land and you don’t use it, you need to let it go so it can be given to people that will know how to use it to improve their lives and those of the communities,” said Zikalala

“Land expropriation will be done lawfully, we are not going to take back the land forcefully as it was done before.”

The event also saw a surprise appearance by President Jacob Zuma who had elected to not travel with the country’s other top leaders to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

He took the opportunity to throw his support behind the ANC’s current KZN leadership and  reiterated the importance of economic development and the issue of land.
