Travel website TripAdvisor has released its Traveller’s Choice Awards winners for 2017, detailing the best hotels to stay at in South Africa.

The list is based entirely on readers reviews and encompasses a wide-range of accommodation types and price ranges provided the accommodation meets TripAdvisor’s definition of hotel which includes:

• A front desk is open and staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week;
• Daily housekeeping is included in the room price;
• Private bathroom for each unit;
• Must not require guests to stay more than 3 nights.

The prestigious Oyster Box situated in Umhlanga Rocks was named this year’s best hotel in South Africa with reviewers making special mention of the high-quality meals available and its ideal beach-positioning as its biggest selling points.

It was followed by Kapama Safari Lodge (based in the Kapama Game Reserve) in second and Cape Town’s Cape Grace Hotel in third.
