A space has “opened up” in finance committee as Molefe prepares to be sworn in
African National Congress MP, Makhosi Khoza, has confirmed that she is being moved out of her position on parliament’s standing committee on finance following rumours that incoming MP Brian Molefe will act as competition to current finance minister Pravin Gordhan.
Speaking to The Citizen, Khoza confirmed that she did not know why she was being moved, only that the move was sudden and that she had only just received the letter detailing her move, despite it being dated on 8 February.
“If you want to know about my appointment and being moved, the first person to speak to is Jackson Mthembu because he is the one that is responsible, at least in this institution, for the deployment of ANC member.”
“I can confirm that I am in the public service and administration, I am their new chair now but it’s going to be confirmed tomorrow [Wednesday] when I am being officially appointed, it will be happening tomorrow morning if we have the quorum.”
Molefe is expected to be sworn in as an ANC MP before Gordhan’s budget speech on 22 February.
The ANC in the North West has defended its decision to nominate Molefe to the National Assembly and has dismissed allegations that he was neither a resident of the province nor a member of the party’s Ward 29 branch in Hartbeespoort.
