CWU not out yet
The Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) will not be deregistered by the department of labour until an appeal on September 20, the union said on Friday (17 August 2012).
“The department of labour was once again embarrassed and told by the court that there was no need to deregister the union hastily,” said acting secretary general Thabo Mogalane.
Mogalane said the court believed that CWU’s appeal should be heard quickly.
He said the notice of deregistration had come as a surprise to the union.
While it was aware that its provincial offices were not in compliance, it believed they were working within a time-frame for compliance agreed to with the department.
