Telkom Mobile heats up prepaid competition
Telkom Mobile has launched its SIM-Sonke pre-paid tariff plan, offering subscribers a 29c per min on-net call rate.
The rate is charged on a per-second basis, and the plan offers 75c per minute to other networks (per-second billing).
SIM-Sonke also carries a data rate of 29c/MB.
National and international roaming is not available on this tariff plan, though international calls can be made, and SMS and MMS can be sent by SIM-Sonke subscribers.
Subscribers are offered a number of recharge incentives on SIM-Sonke as well:
- Recharges between R5 to R19.99 get 5 free on-net SMS messages valid for the same day of the recharge, as well as free evening calls to other SIM-Sonke numbers valid from 21:00 to 06:00.
- Recharges of R20 and over qualify for 20 free SMS messages valid for 7 days, expiring at 23:59 on the 7th day. Subscribers also get free evening calls to other SIM-Sonke numbers for 7 days if they recharge for R20 or more.
- Recharges done after 21:00 but before midnight get the free evening call benefits immediately.
BlackBerry Internet Services for older BlackBerry devices are not available on SIM-Sonke.
The SIM-Sonke starter pack costs R0.99 and contains two SIM cards that must both be registered under RICA before they will be activated. Mobile number ports are also supported.
This is not a promotional rate, but a standard rate, Telkom Mobile said.
