Cell C appoints new CFO
South Africa’s third mobile operator Cell C has announced that its chief strategy officer, Robert Pasley has agreed to take up a combined position of chief financial and strategy officer with immediate effect.
A qualified chartered accountant and theoretical physicist, Pasley has a wealth of experience in the financial intricacies of the telecommunications industry, Cell C said.
In 1993, Pasley was involved in the development of Vodacom’s original business plan and played a role in several large-scale business acquisitions in the telecommunications space.
His experience includes, group executive of finance and director of corporate strategy.
Before he joined Cell C, Pasley owned and ran his own strategy consulting business, which consulted to several high-profile South African businesses.
“I am pleased that Robert agreed to accept the position. His knowledge and experience will definitely be beneficial to Cell C,” said Cell C CEO, Alan Knott-Craig.
In July, Cell C announced that it had connected more than one million customers in one month for the first time and taking its total customer base to over 11.7 million.
The group also indicated that it is on a three year path to profitability, following a recent injection of R5.7billion from Oger Telecom, the Lebanese-controlled firm with an indirect 75% holding in the SA operator, which invested a further $350-million (around R3.5 billion) and key lenders “including Nedbank and the Development Bank of South Africa” which provided R2.2 billion.
