Mobile Telephone Network (MTN) Nigeria and next-generation mobile technologies provider, Qualcomm are collaborating to improve the 3G key performance indicators (KPI) of the mobile operator’s wireless network.

MTN Nigeria is part of SA based MTN Group (MTN), and boasts 42 million subscribers.

To date, the company has invested more than US$10 billion in building Nigeria’s mobile telecommunications infrastructure.

“As our subscriber base continues to grow, having an efficient and reliable network is essential to providing our customers with a best-in-class mobile experience,” said Lynda Saint-Nwafor, CTO of MTN Nigeria. “Qualcomm’s comprehensive network services and strong expertise in 3G and 4G technologies make them the ideal partner to help us improve the quality of our network.”

An upgrade on its 3G network would enable MTN Nigeria to provide seamless and reliable voice calling, as well as faster 3G data speeds for activities such as texting, sharing multimedia and browsing the Web.

Qualcomm would provide technical and engineering support to help MTN Nigeria benchmark and audit its 3G network to identify potential areas for increased efficiency.
