Nedbank sees R23 billion in app transactions
Nedbank has seen R23 billion in transactions through is mobile App Suite, the bank revealed on Monday (16 September 2013).
Nedbank’s App Suite recently won the title of Best Android Consumer App at the MTN App of the Year awards, spurring the bank on to further develop its app and make it more accessible to customers.
In a new update, the App Suite adds on-device enrollment, simplifies its share trading platform and offers a new secure inbox.
“We’re moving towards being a leader in the mobile and digital space in South Africa,” said Fred Swanepoel, Nedbank chief information officer.
In reporting its financial results for the six months ended June 2013, Nedbank CEO, Mike Brown noted that the bank’s growth in digital had seen 1.3 million of its clients become “digitally enabled”, revealing further that the bank’s App Suite had seen 230,000 downloads since its launch in October 2012.
In its reporting, the bank underlined diluted headline earnings per share up 12.6% to 831 cents for the six months period ended June 2013. Headline earnings grew 13.3% to R3.91 billion.
When BusinessTech asked Brown if the bank has plans to enter the mobile space as an MVNO or whether it plans to retail mobile devices, Brown said: “We continually look to innovate in mobile… watch this space.”
