A political advertisement from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will not be aired by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), a spokesperson for the public broadcaster has told MyBroadband.

However, the SABC said it doesn’t “ban” anything.

According to the broadcaster, it simply rejected the EFF’s advertisement over the inclusion of the statement, “DESTROY E-TOLLS PHYSICALLY!”

The statement is an incitement to criminal activity, the SABC said.

The SABC spokesperson said that, unlike the Democratic Alliance advertisement, which was a matter of interpretation, the EFF’s ad is “very blatant”.

“You can’t try to explain it differently,” the SABC said.

Responding to the rejection of its ad, the EFF took to Twitter on Monday, 21 April 2014 and said that the SABC had banned its ad because of E-tolls.

“They’ve touched us on the wrong side. We’r [sic] going for them,” the EFF posted.

“The SABC has started a war it can’t win, eTolls are not in popular demand. The #EFFAdvert is!”
