Back to stage 6 load shedding on Sunday – here’s the latest schedule
Power utility Eskom says that load shedding has been reduced to stage 3 on Sunday, down from the previously-scheduled stage 4.
This was possible due to lower demand and follows load shedding being briefly suspended just after midnight, it said.
However, stage 6 load shedding will still return at 16h00, the group said, and a rotation between stage 6 overnight and stage 4 during the day will continue until further notice.
The schedule is as follows:
Sunday, 14 May
- Suspended: 00h53 to 07h45
- Stage 3 07h45 to 16h00
- Stage 6: 16h00 to 00h00
Monday, 15 May
- Stage 6: 00h00 to 05h00
- Stage 4: 05h00 to 16h00
- Stage 6: 16h00 to 00h00
Breakdowns are currently at 18,016MW, with 3,987MW out on planned maintenance.
During the past 24 hours, a generating unit has returned to service at the Kriel Power Station – however, over the same period, two other units at the station have been taken out of service.
A unit at Matla has also been taken offline, and there has been a delay in returning seven units at various other power stations, which are adding to capacity constraints, Eskom said.
Eskom said it would publish an update as soon as anything changes.
