Stage 4 load shedding sticking around this week – here’s the new schedule
Power utility Eskom says that stage 4 load shedding will continue this week as the grid remains under pressure.
However, load shedding will be downgraded during the day when demand is lower.
Stage 2 load shedding will continue until 14h00 on Sunday before escalating to stage 4.
Stage 3 load shedding will kick in from 05h00 on Monday until 16h00, then escalate to stage 4 again.
Eskom said the daytime load shedding will ease to stage 2 by Tuesday.
The schedule is as follows:
Sunday, 23 July
- Stage 2: until 14h00
- Stage 4: 14h00 to 00h00
Monday, 24 July
- Stage 4: 00h00 to 05h00
- Stage 3: 05h00 to 16h00
- Stage 4: 16h00 to 00h00
Tuesday, 25 July
- Stage 4: 00h00 to 05h00
- Stage 2: 05h00 to 16h00
- Stage 4: 16h00 to 00h00
Wednesday, 26 July
- Stage 4: 00h00 to 05h00
- Stage 2: 05h00 to 16h00
- Stage 4: 16h00 to 00h00
Breakdowns have increased to 16,943MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 3,761MW.
Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit at Camden and Matla power stations were returned to service.
In the same period, a generating unit each at Duvha, Grootvlei, Kriel and Matla power stations was taken offline for repairs.
The delay in returning to service a generating unit at Kendal and two generating units at Tutuka power stations is contributing to the current capacity constraints.
