Load shedding to be eased this weekend – here’s the schedule
Power utility Eskom says that load shedding will be eased this weekend as demand is expected to drop, taking pressure off the grid.
Stage 3 load shedding will be implemented as planned on Friday (5 January) from 16h00 until 05h00 on Saturday.
This will be followed by stage 1 load shedding until 16h00, onto stage 2 until 05h00 on Sunday.
Load shedding will then be suspended from 05h00 until 16h00 on Sunday, with outages returning at stage 1 from 16h00 to 05h00 on Monday.
The load shedding schedule for the week ahead is expected to be announced on Sunday.
The full schedule is as follows:
Friday, 5 January
- Stage 2: until 16h00
- Stage 3: 16h-00 to 00h00
Saturday, 6 January
- Stage 3: 00h00 to 05h00
- Stage 1: 05h00 to 16h00
- Stage 2: 16h00 to 00h00
Sunday, 7 January
- Stage 2: 00h00 to 05h00
- Suspended: 05h00 to 16h00
- Stage 1: 16h00 to 00h00
According to Eskom, the lower stages of load shedding are a result of the return to service of some generation units in the past 48 hours, coupled with the anticipated lower weekend demand.
