DStv-owner announces streaming partnership with Samsung

 ·22 Jun 2026

Multichoice owner Canal+ has announced a partnership with Samsung Electronics, with a pre-installation rollout of the DStv Stream app on all Samsung Smart TVs in 18 African countries.

Canal+ said that the collaboration will be seen across English and Portuguese-speaking African markets served by MultiChoice Group. Paris-based Canal+ acquired Multichoice in a R54 billion deal last year.

The partnership will mark the first-ever pre-installation rollout of the DStv Stream app on Samsung Smart TVs across these markets.

The French broadcaster said that the partnership will also support the expansion of MultiChoice’s streaming and OTT ecosystem across key African markets.

This new milestone builds on the strategic partnership already in place between Canal+ and Samsung across 40 markets in Europe, French-speaking Africa, and Asia.

From 1 June 2026, the DStv Stream app will be pre-installed on all new Samsung Smart TVs across 18 African countries, including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe and more.

Canal+ said that Samsung users will now benefit from simplified access to its full breadth of content available on DStv Stream, such as the FIFA World Cup, English Premier League and international rugby.

The app will be directly accessible from the home screen of new Samsung Smart TVs, which Canal+ said gives users the most seamless way to access MultiChoice Group’s content and offerings.

“We are delighted to extend our longstanding partnership with Samsung across new English and Portuguese-speaking African countries,” said David Mignot, CEO of Multichoice Group.

“It marks a significant milestone in the synergies created by the combination of Canal+ and Multichoice Group.”

Mignot added that as viewing habits continue to evolve across the continent, strengthening accessibility of Multichoice content is key.

He said that by expanding the availability of its applications on Samsung Smart TVs across key African markets, the group is making it easier for millions of customers to access its content.

Multichoice’s streaming operations have changed dramatically since Canal+ took over, with the Showmax streaming service now folded into DStv Stream.

Earlier this year, Canal+ said it was considering deploying its own streaming app, which would include deals with Apple TV and Warner Bros Discovery Inc.’s HBO Max for MultiChoice customers.

“All of the content is embedded on the Canal+ app, and as a user, you do not have to go on another app,” Chief Financial Officer Amandine Ferre said at the start of the year.
