How to check if your e-mail address is in the Ashley Madison hack

 ·20 Aug 2015

Wired has reported that websites are available that let you check whether yours or a loved one’s e-mail address was in the Ashley Madison database.

This follows the recent publication of 37 million AshleyMadison.com users’ data.

It is estimated that around 175,000 South Africans may have been exposed due to the security breach.

The hackers who stole the data, Impact Team, initially demanded that Avid Life Media take down Ashley Madison and its companion site, Established Men.

Avid Life Media did not take down the sites, which lead to the hackers releasing the information.

The sites and services below have used the data to allow people to search whether their or a loved one’s e-mail address was part of the leak:

Subscribers of “Have I been pwned”, who have verified the e-mail address they are checking, would already know if they have been compromised.
