Former transport minister Dipuo Peters as resigned as a member of parliament, following her removal from the transport portfolio in the most recent cabinet reshuffle.

Peters said that she handed her letter of resignation to president Jacob Zuma and the chief whip of the ANC, and also submitted her reasons for doing so.

The former minister said that she was making arrangements to fly to Cuba for a medical procedure, but would not elaborate on that.

She congratulated her successor, Joe Maswanganyi for his appointment to her previous role, and praised president Jacob Zuma’s cabinet reshuffle for introducing younger leaders into the mix.

She said she left the transport ministry with no regrets.
