South Africa’s biggest retailer is offering students all-inclusive bursaries – here’s how to apply

The Shoprite Group has opened applications for all-inclusive bursaries for the 2023 academic year.

The bursaries are open to high-performing students and cover tuition fees and on-campus accommodation.

The group said they are catered toward harnessing skills in food science, pharmacy, chartered accounting, logistics as well as information technology, e-commerce and retail business management.

With a work-back agreement upon graduation, bursary holders are guaranteed employment and practical experience, said Shoprite Group.

Bursaries are available in the following fields of study: (Note: All bursaries are for South African citizens aged 27 or younger)

  • 60%+ Aggregate
  • 2nd and 3rd academic year
Food science 2,3,4 10 BSc Food Science, Consumer Science, Microbiology, Food Technology, Advanced Diploma in Quality, Diploma/Degree in Culinary Arts:

  • 60%+ Aggregate
  • 2nd and 3rd academic year
Information technology 2,3 10 BSc/BCom with an Information Systems/Systems Analysis major or a Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Operational Research, Quantitative Management, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Data Engineering:

  • 60%+ Aggregate
  • Minimum 65% in Mathematics
  • 2nd & 3rd academic year
Logistics and supply chain 3,4 10 Bachelors of Commerce: Logistics (Quantitative Management)
Bachelor of Science: Operational Research or related degree/qualification:

  • 60%+ Aggregate
  • 2nd to 4th/Honours academic year
Pharmacy 1,2,3,4 20 Bachelor of Pharmacy:

  • 65%+ Aggregate
  • 1st to 4th academic year
Retail business management 1,2,3 30 Diploma in Retail Business Management:

  • 60%+ Aggregate
  • 1st to 3rd academic year
