New overseas flight launching in South Africa

 ·10 Jun 2026

Airlink will launch a new twice-weekly direct Cape Town-Mauritius flight, which will be Airlink’s first to the Indian Ocean island.

The new route will start from 02 October 2026. Airlink will operate its new Embraer E195-E2 flagship aircraft on the new Mauritius service.

The plane accommodates 124 passengers: 12 in business class and 112 in economy, with only window and aisle seats – there are no middle seats on any Airlink flights.

Onboard flights, customers will be given complimentary meals and refreshments. The plane’s cabin configuration also allows up to 15kg of sporting equipment.

This is in addition to the 20kg free luggage allowance for discounted economy class tickets and the 30kg allocated for full-fare economy travellers.

Airlink’s schedule for the route is designed to allow leisure travellers to maximise their holiday time.

Corporate travellers can enhance their business itineraries without disruptive middle-of-the-night or pre-dawn departures or arrivals, the airline added.

Mauritius is known for its beach resorts, golf courses and for being the safest country in Africa.

The island nation also offers visa-on-arrival for 140 countries, making the popular tourist destination easy to access.

The island also has a sophisticated economy, which includes IT, financial services, textile manufacturing, as well as sugar farming and fishing.

Airlink added that the island’s axis and offshore business incentives have transformed it into a key investment and trade centre.

“Cape Town is also an important source market and connecting hub for leisure and business travel wanting to travel to the island while avoiding the hassle and additional time connecting in Johannesburg,” said de Villiers Engelbrecht, Airlink CEO.

Cape Town is Airlink’s second hub with domestic and regional flights. The airline also offers long-haul connections with its partner airlines from around the world.
