Expect better voice quality from Vodacom

Vodacom is running live trials for enhanced voice services, which includes HD voice, echo cancellation, and noise reduction.
Vodacom spokesperson Richard Boorman explained that echo cancellation and noise reduction will work on all handsets, while HD voice requires an HD voice capable handset.
“The clear plan is to provide improved voice quality to all of our customers no matter what handset they are using. We’ll be making a proper announcement on this in the near future,” said Boorman.
In August, MTN launched HD voice calling technology using the Adaptive Multi-Rate Wideband (AMR-WB) coding standard.
“Currently, there are no HD voice calls on LTE, so this technology applies to 3G calls,” explained MTN SA CTO Eben Albertyn.
