Another new bakkie is coming to South Africa
Chinese automaker Foton announced that it will launch the new Tunland G7 in South Africa’s double-cab segment on June 25, 2024.
The bakkie is part of a bigger expansion plan, Foton notes, and it will be joined by several other vehicles in South Africa.
These include the Miler, View, eView, eAumark, and eTruckmate.
To distribute these, the company has partnered with Combined Motor Holdings (CMH) Group, which operates a network of 40 dealerships nationwide.
Mandarin Parts Distributors will also provide after-sales support to new customers through their local parts warehouse.
“Expanding into the South African market is a significant milestone for Foton, and we are excited to bring our innovative, reliable, and eco-friendly transportation solutions to customers throughout the region,” said Marius Smal, CEO of Foton South Africa.
This double cab has a premium appearance and is promised to be priced affordably compared to its competitors.

However, no specifications are available for Foton’s new vehicles in South Africa at the moment.
As a result, the information below is based on markets where they are already available, but it may not match the local attributes.
The G7 model in the Philippines comes equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that can produce 120kW power and 390Nm torque.
You can choose from a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission. Depending on the variant, the power is transmitted to the rear or all four wheels using a time-sharing 4×4 system.
The model also features 2H, 4H, and 4L settings, and a rear-axle differential lock is available as standard across all variants.

Additionally, the Tunland has a maximum payload capacity of 1,100kg, making it a competitive option in the market.
The car’s interior has luxurious features, including an 8-inch digital driver’s display, a 10.25-inch central touchscreen, a leather sports steering wheel, electric seats, and automatic air conditioning.
The Tunland is available in upper-level trims that come equipped with a range of safety and assistance features, including:
- Parking sensors, lane-keep assistance, forward-collision warning,
- Downhill assist,
- Blind-spot detection,
- A 360-degree camera system and six airbags.
The Tunland is slightly larger than the Toyota Hilux, with 5,340mm in length, 1,940mm in width, and 1,870mm in height.
Foton has confirmed that the diesel model will initially be available for South African buyers, with an electric version to be added to the range.
