New cars coming to South Africa in 2025

Car enthusiasts and prospective buyers in South Africa have plenty to look forward to, with a wave of new models hitting the market in 2025.
After a strong lineup in 2024, including the next-gen Toyota Prado, Ford Mustang, BMW X3, Suzuki Swift, and Chery Tiggo Cross, the coming year promises even more variety and innovation.
One of the biggest highlights in 2025 will be the highly anticipated Kia Tasman, marking the Korean brand’s debut in the bakkie segment.
Additionally, the Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) is set to launch, though its availability in South Africa remains uncertain despite local production in Pretoria.
SUVs continue to dominate the local market, and 2025 will see several noteworthy additions. Renault will introduce a new iteration of the Duster, one of the most affordable 4×4 crossovers available.
Audi is bringing the next-generation Q5, completing the trio of German midsize SUVs alongside the recently updated BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.
Meanwhile, Volkswagen is replacing the Tiguan Allspace with the new Tayron, positioned between the Tiguan and the larger Touareg.
The Tayron is expected to come with a choice of a 110 kW 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine or a more powerful 140 kW 2.0-litre turbo petrol, both paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Toyota has remained secretive about its future releases, but the company confirmed in 2024 that the bZ4X Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) will be arriving in South Africa.
Kia will expand its offerings with the new Sorento and Carnival, while Renault plans to roll out updates for the Captur, Kiger, and the all-new Arkana.
Chinese automakers are making significant strides in the South African market, with Jetour launching the Dashing, X70 Plus, and the new T2.
Chery will introduce the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions of the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro alongside its flagship Tiggo 9 Pro.
Additionally, Omoda and Jaecoo have ambitious plans to bring at least six new models, including the C7, C9 PHEV, J5, J6, J7 PHEV, and J8.
For hatchback enthusiasts, 2025 brings some exciting developments. Volkswagen is planning a non-performance Golf model, offering a more accessible TSI variant to complement the GTI and R versions.
Renault will launch an updated Clio, while Audi will roll out the latest A3 and high-performance RS3.
Meanwhile, Mini has an action-packed year ahead with the release of the new Aceman, Cooper Convertible, and John Cooper Works models.
Fiat and Abarth are also set to make an impact with the 500e, the first fully-electric models from Stellantis in South Africa.
While their launch was initially slated for 2024, delays have pushed it into 2025. These compact EVs will offer options for both mainstream buyers and performance enthusiasts.
With such an array of new models arriving, 2025 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for the South African car industry. Consumers will have more options, and economic factors will also improve buyer confidence.
According to AutoTrader, South Africa is seeing an increase in consumer confidence, with lower interest rates and stabilising fuel prices encouraging vehicle purchases.
November 2024 saw a 0.25% cut in interest rates, making car financing more accessible.
Furthermore, while fuel prices remain high at R22.41 per litre as of February 2025, the downward trend from previous years is a welcome relief.
“Falling interest rates and petrol prices are giving South African motorists and consumers plenty to smile about,” said Angelique Lynch, AutoTrader’s Marketing Director.
With these economic improvements and an influx of exciting new models across various segments, the automotive landscape in South Africa is set for an exciting year ahead.
