The Metropolitan Police in Britain is considering the use of birds of prey to intercept drones where they are being used to commit crime.

This is according to the BBC, and follows trials in holland.

The Ministry of Justice reported in November that a drone was used to smuggle mobile phones, SIM cards and drugs into the grounds of HMP Manchester, while additional  attempts were reported in 2015.

A Met Police spokesman told the BBC: “As would be expected in an organisation that is transforming, we take an interest in all innovative new ideas and will of course be looking at the work of the Dutch police use of eagles.”

A Dutch security company recently released a video of an eagle grabbing a flying drone in mid-flight.

The Dutch national police is looking at the feasibility of using the birds in real-life aircraft-intercept scenarios.
