Microsoft is not ditching Paint
Microsoft says it will not terminate Paint from Windows 10 as originally planned, instead it will be available in the Windows Store.
Microsoft Paint had on Monday been added to the ‘deprecated’ list of the tech group’s next Windows 10 update, called the Fall Creators Update, which it explained ‘are not in active development and might be removed in future releases’.
“This list is intended to help customers consider these removals and deprecations for their own planning. The list is subject to change and may not include every deprecated feature or functionality,” Microsoft said.
However, following an outpouring of support for the program on social media, Microsoft said in a blog post: “MS Paint fans rejoice: The original art app isn’t going anywhere – except to the Windows Store for free.
“Today, we’ve seen an incredible outpouring of support and nostalgia around MS Paint. If there’s anything we learned, it’s that after 32 years, MS Paint has a lot of fans. It’s been amazing to see so much love for our trusty old app.”
Microsoft said it wanted to take the opportunity to set the record straight, clear up some confusion and share some good news:
“Paint 3D – the new app for creativity, also available for free with the Windows 10 Creators Update, will continue to get new feature updates. In addition to the new 3D capabilities, many of the MS Paint features people know and love like photo editing, line and curve tools, and 2D creation are in Paint 3D.”
