Watch: Suspects escape unattended SAPS van
Police say they are investigating an incident caught on camera showing two suspects escaping from an unattended police van in Pinetown, Durban on Thursday, 9 June.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport‚ Community Safety and Liaison Mxolisi Kaunda said the two suspects had been arrested for the possession of a dangerous and unlicensed weapon.
He called for a full-scale investigation into the escape. “If police were negligence‚ action must be taken against them. If a member of the community assisted the suspects‚ law must also take it cause‚” he said, as reported by the Times.
“It is not clear whether the bakkie was locked or a member of the community assisted the suspects to open hence the call by MEC Kaunda for a thorough investigation‚” said the MEC’s spokesman‚ Sipho Khumalo.
