New FNB card scam warning – don’t fall for this email

FNB has warned its clients of a new scam going around in which customers are asked to ‘reactivate’ or ‘register’ their bank cards.

The scam follows the typical phishing mould, but is presented in a more ‘realistic’ way, coming from an InContact@FNB email address, which could be easily associated with the bank’s official sources.

Clients receive an email requesting them to reactivate or register your FNB card, with a warning that failure to do so will lead to the card being suspended.

The email contains an attachment:

When the attachment is selected, clients are presented with a fake fnb.co.za screen requesting personal information:

“When you enter your details on this screen, the fraudsters will be in position to access your banking profile,” the bank warned.

FNB will neverask for your username, password or PIN in an email, SMS or phone call, the bank said.

“Never select a link to our website that was sent via email. Always type in FNB’s web address. Report fraud on 087 575 9444.”
