Bytes wins R400 million Absa IT contract
Bytes Technology Group, the wholly-owned subsidiary of JSE-listed Altron Group, has won an Absa ICT contract worth R400 million, to provide services across Africa.
The contract includes the provision of desktop EUC services and support for over 63,000 users throughout Africa.
South Africa represents the highest volume, with 46,000 users across 1,351 local branches and various campus sites, Bytes said.
Following on from phase one in South Africa, the service transition plan will expand to include 16 countries on the continent including: Botswana, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
“We want to make information technology accessible to our customers in their use of smartphones and social networks,” said Absa chief information officer for Africa technology, Alpesh Patel.
“The new applications have fundamentally changed the way that we do business. We want to empower our users and at the same time maintain the security of the infrastructure.”
