Standard Bank is set to launch a new website with a responsive design that will enable customers to bank via PC, tablet or smartphone.

The bank was due to launch the new site at an event on Thursday (28 August), however, it has been delayed to a later date.

The group sent out an SMS to customers: “Get ready to experience the next level of internet banking” with a link to its website.

Earlier in August, Standard Bank updated its banking app for smartphones, having originally launched its mobile app in June 2012.

The new app initially experienced technical issues with users unable to login, before the glitch was addressed.

The new site will include a new “powerful” search functionality to enable finding beneficiaries simpler.

“Both the new and current sites will be running to ensure you have access to all the functionality that Internet banking offers. Choose to continue banking on the existing Internet banking site, start using the new site, or simply switch between the two,” Standard Bank said.

The bank has asked for customer feedback when the site launches. It said that during the weeks after launching the new site, it will continue to enhance the Internet banking experience.

“Tell us what your needs are and how we can improve the experience, so that it keeps getting better for you.”

When FNB unveiled its new website in July last year, the bank was criticised by its users for its design, while also experiencing technical glitches early on.

According to Standard Bank, to begin using the new site, customers will be asked to complete four steps to set up a Standard Bank ID.

The new ID will mean a single sign-in across the group’s banking app, as well as Internet banking, it said.
