Petrol price drops 67c for SA motorists

 ·29 Aug 2014

The price of all grades of petrol will drop by 67 cents a litre next week, the energy department said on Friday.

The price of diesel would decrease by 25.38 cents a litre, and that of illuminating paraffin by 25 cents a litre.

The price of LP Gas would fall by R1.08 a kilogram.

The new prices would come into effect on Wednesday (3 September).

The department said Energy Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson had approved a retail margin increase of 4.2 cents per litre from Wednesday.

This increase was to accommodate the nine percent salary increase for fuel pump attendants and cashiers.

On Monday (25 August), the Central Energy Fund (CEF) noted that lower international product prices – coupled with the slight weakening of the rand against the dollar – pointed an over recovery of 68.3 cents per litre of petrol.
