PayGate adds Zapper, prepares for mobile boom
PayGate has added mobile payments system Zapper to its stable of payment options, as the company prepares for a mobile boom in South Africa.
Zapper joins MasterCard’s MasterPass in PayGate’s mobile payments options.
The payments app works by integrating directly into the point of sale software and printing out a QR code on the bill which can then be scanned into and paid via the app.
The app has already signed up nearly 1,000 merchants, mainly restaurants, and is growing at a rate of 50-60 new merchants a week, the group said.
“We expect that mobile will account for 50% of all card transactions within the next five years – and that’s probably conservative,” said PayGate GM for business development, Brendon Williamson.
“Our goal is to ensure that our clients are always able to collect payments using the methods their customers prefer,” Williamson said.
“Mobile is becoming an important part of that, with QR codes currently being the most popular way to enable payments.”
