Eskom pushes load shedding to stage 4 – here’s the new schedule
Power utility Eskom says that load shedding will be escalated to stage 4 on Tuesday evening, with a rotation of stage 2 and stage 4 repeating until further notice.
The group was forced to push daytime load shedding to stage 2 due to the loss of three generating units overnight.
Stage 2 will continue until 16h00 as announced, thereafter stage 4 will come into effect until 05h00 on Wednesday.
Stage 2 during the day (05h00 – 16h00) and stage 4 overnight (16h00 – 05h00) will continue until something changes.
Tuesday, 29 August
- Stage 2: until 16h00
- Stage 4: 16h00 to 00h00
Wednesday, 30 August
- Stage 4: 00h00 to 05h00
- Stage 2: 05h00 to 16h00
- Stage 4: 16h00 to 00h00
“The implementation of the higher stages of loadshedding is due to the loss of additional generation units over the past 24 hours however, Eskom will endeavour to reduce stages of load shedding where possible,” the group said.
Breakdowns are currently at 16,154MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 5,970MW.
Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit at Duvha, Kendal and Majuba power stations was returned to service.
In the same period, a generating unit at Camden, Kendal, Kriel, Kusile, Matla and two generating units at Matimba power stations were taken offline for repairs.
The delay in returning to service a generating unit at Tutuka and Kendal Power Stations is also contributing to the current capacity constraints.
Eskom said its load forecast for the evening peak demand is 28,512MW it appealed to the members of the public to continue reducing demand by switching off non-essential appliances.
