SA retail giant launches online click-and-collect lockers
Massmart-owned wholesaler Makro is acquiring access to sites to enable delivery of online customer orders to “conveniently located” secure lockers.
The new click-and-collect lockers will complement the existing option for online shoppers to collect their orders from Makro stores.
These secure lockers, using technology already deployed in other markets, will be located in “safe and convenient” locations, including petrol station forecourts, fast food restaurants, office parks, and Makro stores.
“They provide customers with an additional delivery option which will supplement the home delivery and in-store click and collect solutions already offered by Makro,” the company said.
Delivery to a secure locker entails customers selecting a locker site which meets their needs.
The customers then receive a text message confirming that the order is ready for collection, along with a unique code to gain access to a locker.
Makro said it had already signed with Sasol which will provide nationwide access to its extensive forecourt network.
The group is planning to announce further rollout plans by mid-2015.
